Road Trip to Harper
Join us on a road trip to experience the reality of travel in Liberia, one of the least developed countries in West Africa. The 470 mile journey takes 2 days on bumpy, bone-jarring roads – or an hour in an MAF plane.

THE STORY
In remote parts of the world where MAF serves, ground transportation is often a sketchy proposition at best. Distances that take days or weeks by road can be made by plane in in minutes or hours.
We wanted to experience firsthand what it’s like to travel by road in Liberia. The road from Monrovia to Harper is notoriously difficult and dangerous, often taking days or weeks to travel in the muddy season. Luckily we were there in the dry season, so our Land Rover (dubbed The Boneshaker) could hit every bump and pothole at full speed.
We documented our journey through video and photos and interviewed many of MAF’s partners along the way.
